WU LYF - Heavy Pop

WU LYF - Heavy Pop. After being disappointed with the outcome of this album in the studio, WU LYF took it upon themselves to re-record the album afresh. To create the grandeur they were after they rented an abandoned church and kitted it out with a full PA and recording set-up. The result: a complex and rich sounding album with plenty of re-verb. This track, Heavy Pop is synonymous with the current trend of creating a hugeness around vocals and guitar. It's a real Mogwai-esque tour de force of power and WU LYF put together a compelling build-up to this track to put it on a pedestal. The vocals of Ellery Roberts are rasping and are all together better for the vaulting of the church. This track is a real success and a stand-out moment on WU LYF's debut album: Go Tell Fire To The Mountain. Here at Prodigal Gene we thoroughly recommend giving this album a listen; an energising British band, with the rich heritage of the Manchester music scene behind them.
