James Blake & Bon Iver - Fall Creek Boys Choir

James Blake & Bon Iver - Fall Creek Boys Choir. News of this potential collaboration hit the net last week and it really whetted the appetite. The electronic genius of James Blake mixed with the lingering vocals of Justin Vernon really hits the mark. This track is a real triumph and we can only hope for more of the same somewhere down the line. Anyway, sit back, enjoy this and eagerly await the release on iTunes this Sunday, August 29th.

WU LYF - Heavy Pop

WU LYF - Heavy Pop. After being disappointed with the outcome of this album in the studio, WU LYF took it upon themselves to re-record the album afresh. To create the grandeur they were after they rented an abandoned church and kitted it out with a full PA and recording set-up. The result: a complex and rich sounding album with plenty of re-verb. This track, Heavy Pop is synonymous with the current trend of creating a hugeness around vocals and guitar. It's a real Mogwai-esque tour de force of power and WU LYF put together a compelling build-up to this track to put it on a pedestal. The vocals of Ellery Roberts are rasping and are all together better for the vaulting of the church. This track is a real success and a stand-out moment on WU LYF's debut album: Go Tell Fire To The Mountain. Here at Prodigal Gene we thoroughly recommend giving this album a listen; an energising British band, with the rich heritage of the Manchester music scene behind them.

Destroyer - Kaputt

Destroyer - Kaputt. This is the latest album from Destroyer. Destroyer is an artist who I can honestly say is completely different to anybody else I've ever come across. The influences in amongst the meandering songs are varied and vastly cultured. The album is slow and a definite grower. One of the stand-out tracks on the album is Blue Eyes if only for it's floaty nature and rhythm.

Bon Iver - Bon Iver

Bon Iver - Bon Iver. The new album from Bon Iver is once again truly breathtaking. It feels like the sound has been beefed up a bit since the popular For Emma, Forever Ago. The new album has a certain grandeur about it and benefits from this extra production. Lyrically it is again outstanding, with lyrics such as "And at once I knew I was not magnificent" demonstrating this perfectly. Take a moment.

No Age - Glitter

No Age - Glitter. This track is wicked. Unfortunately I stumbled onto this band a little late. It's one of them where you wish you were around at the beginning because it sounds like a lot of fun!

Enjoy...

SBTRKT - SBTRKT

SBTRKT - SBTRKT. This album has been widely reviewed across the web and the general consensus is good. A melancholic-post-dub-step triumph.

Washed Out - Within and Without

Washed Out - Within and Without. The new album from Washed Out which I cannot recommend enough. Truly chilled out and occasionally breathtakingly brilliant.
